You sound like a good parent. I agree: I think a lot of the despair we’re seeing from teens now stems exactly from what you describe. They’re being forced to go through the motions of some future they don’t want, that won’t lead anywhere, and will just make everything worse. They desperately want the freedom to at least do something that feels meaningful, not a bunch of college prep bullshit.
