Yep, early on in your career I think it’s fair to put in extra work if you think it will actually lead somewhere — a promotion, personal satisfaction, etc. But after a while you have to pack it in. Although I don’t regret all the work I put into research, I’m getting better and better at deciding what’s not worth my while — and not doing it. :)
