Yeah, I hate when that happens. Once, a dept chair told me at the end of a 7 hour campus visit that they only brought me in because HR policy obligated them to, “because technically you’re qualified.” But their plan was to promote an internal candidate from part-time to full-time. I wasn’t angry at the other candidate, but at them for wasting my time. Ugh.
