There has been a ton of research and development in sustainable living that includes micro-farming to supplement our dependence on supply chains and ease our demand. My point is that for those of us who can, we should be delving into this and aspiring to produce more of our own food, even if we never get completely "off the grid." I'm in this process now, and I'm definitely learning that it's not easy. It takes a lot of planning, and would take years to actually become even semi self-sufficient. Like you, I think we need to get much more responsible in how/what we consume in the first place and call on other people to do the same. Also, I agree that if we don't build better systems starting right now, then *nobody* is going to be able to grow food period, because the environment will be too hostile in most places.
