Our Politicians Are Losing Their Grip on Reality

They don’t hear themselves anymore.

Jessica Wildfire

It’s straight out of a Tom Clancy novel.

A new story from Politico alleges that a candidate for Florida’s 13th congressional district was toying with the idea of sending a Russian-Ukrainian hit squad after his political rival, Anna Paulina Luna. He denies it, although I wonder lately how much longer politicians will even have to pretend they’re not villains in political thrillers.

The exact words:

I really don’t want to have to end anybody’s life for the good of the people of the United States of America… That will break my heart. But if it needs to be done, it needs to be done. Luna is a f — -ing speed bump in the road. She’s a dead squirrel you run over every day when you leave the neighborhood.

This story has the side effect of making Anna Paulina Luna sound like a reasonable person. Just to be clear, she’s not.

She’s a pro-Trump conspiracy theorist who loves guns a little too much, and hangs out with Steven Bannon on his podcast, “War Room.” She also appears on alt-right media outlets like News Max.

I mean, look at this photo:

And this one:

Apparently Tomb Raider is running for congress.

Luna herself divides the world into “hunters” and victims” and spends a fair deal of her time posing with assault weapons on Instagram. As the republican front runner in 2022, Luna has a decent chance of winning the 13th district now that Charlie Crist has decided to run for governor.

If elected, I’m sure she’ll make friends with Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene, rounding out the Q squad.

For me at least, the kicker of the assassin story is that political performance artists like Luna now appear as the sane, rational alternatives to men who believe they can send kill teams…
