On the one hand, I see your point. But then again, I’m wondering if Medium is creating a larger overall readership and member pool. Rising tide lifts all ships? More people might sign up if they know they can also access some news and commentary from places like WaPo and Atlantic, etc — in addition to indie bloggers and new voices. The trick, of course, is balancing the different types of readers and writers that operate here. I don’t think Medium is going to turn into a centralized platform for conventional mags. Too many of its core readers would protest and leave.
