Living in B-Flat: Songs that Made Me

Music therapy is vastly underrated.

The universe hums. In B-lat. Echoed out by black holes and pulsars. It sounds a little sad. But it contains immense power.

Music doesn’t just entertain. It doubles as therapy. Helps you figure out who you are. Who you need to be. The right music can fix almost anything. But it also crafts you into your future self.

The songs I’m sharing are b-flat, and they make me happy.

They’ve granted me the life of a smirk.

My friends don’t like songs in b-flat. “So much pain,” they say. Fine by me. They don’t need to like the same music I do.

But I’d be remiss not to share the songs and music videos that pulled me through all the turmoil of my my teenage years. You know, the mom that threatens to kill you in your sleep.

This music has stayed with me since my early years. It survived all the fads — even that period in your 20s when everyone becomes obsessed with Bob Dylan. Oh, and he made my list, too.

Just not what you’d expect.

Not pretty. But definitely interesting…

Otherwise known as the 90s. A decade full of angst and sinister rebellion. We weren’t flower children. Fuck that.
