I’ve always thought Predator was a brutal take down of masculinity, not a celebration or glorification of it. If you watch the film seriously, it becomes pretty clear that nobody wants to be there. A bunch of tough guys find out that they’re just midway up the food chain, and forces in this universe exist well beyond their understanding. That realization terrifies them, and they ultimately succumb to it. All the directors did was add guns and explosions. Take away the action, and it’s basically an American version of “The Seventh Seal.” But that’s just me.
