It’s all about indexicality. People choose words — especially slang — to show you the side of themselves they want seen. Also a great tool when used sparsely. Perfect example: Remember in House of Cards, when Will Conway drops an F-bomb behind closed doors for the first time? It tells you so much about his 2-facedness, and what’s coming. :)
