Esper was fired in November, and he sat on that information for almost two years. It might've been helpful for the world to know just how violent and unhinged Trump was leading up to Jan 6, for sure, and I don't see any other reason for his silence other than saving it for a book, or thinking it didn't matter until someone persuaded him it would be a good story.
