Completely agreed, and it’s a little weird for a college teacher to question the value of college. I think what a lot of individual teachers do is fantastic. A single college class can be transformative. But we just don’t seem to scale it up very well. In truth, Ivy Leagues and other big private institutions do it right. But it takes huge resources. Education is incredibly expensive. And powerful. That’s why it costs so much, and why people are willing to break the law to get into a top ranked school. That said, an education from the streets can mean just as much. There, your tuition is paid with scars and danger. Don’t we know it? :)
